Our educational priorities in 2026 – Quality of interaction and pedagogical offerings in combination with free play

Written by Cornelia Peltenburg | 10.02.2026

Through the interplay of appreciative interaction, free play and targeted activities, we create a daycare environment in which your child feels safe, develops a joy of learning and can develop holistically.

Quality of interaction – relationships as a foundation
Interaction quality describes the quality of everyday encounters between caregivers and children – for example, when playing, changing nappies, eating, comforting or exploring. The decisive factor is not how much is spoken or communicated, but how. High-quality interaction is demonstrated, among other things, by educational professionals responding sensitively to children's signals and needs, perceiving, naming and accompanying emotions, stimulating children linguistically and involving them in dialogue, showing interest in children's thoughts and ideas, and building a secure and appreciative relationship. Children who experience reliable, sensitive and stimulating interactions in their everyday lives develop greater self-confidence and emotional security. They also demonstrate better linguistic and social skills and learn more sustainably and with greater enjoyment.

It is particularly important to note that early childhood learning does not only take place in educational settings, but above all in everyday situations when adults consciously design them to be educational. At kids & co, the quality of interaction is not an add-on, but part of every moment:

  • In care situations, we take time to build relationships
  • In voluntary educational programmes, we pick up on the children's areas of interest
  • During free play, we accompany children attentively and linguistically
  • We observe, reflect and discuss our educational activities as a team

We are accompanied and supported in our continuous quality development by the Thurgau University of Teacher Education, which uses the internationally recognised "Class Toddler" tool under licence in Switzerland.

Educational activities – targeted short impulses

Every day, we offer planned educational activities that are tailored to the children's interests and developmental stages. These include creative activities such as painting, crafts and music, various indoor and outdoor exercise and nature experiences during forest days, small experiments, and linguistic, mathematical and social learning activities. These daily activities take place in individual, small or large groups and encourage the children to try new things and develop their skills. The educational specialists take the children's interests and developmental stages into account when planning the activities.

Free play – learning through self-motivation

During free play, your child decides for themselves what they want to play with, for how long and with whom. They learn to find their own way into the game and to engage in intrinsic activities. In doing so, they learn social skills such as sharing, negotiating and consideration, independence and initiative, creativity, problem-solving and perseverance in a particularly lasting way. Our carers observe free play closely, providing support when needed and picking up on ideas without disrupting the play process.

Through a combination of appreciative interaction, free play and targeted activities, we create a daycare environment in which your child feels safe, develops a joy of learning and can develop holistically.
